Inadequate safety training puts employees at risk

On Nov. 4, a gunman walked into a popular shopping mall and opened fire before turning the gun on himself. Although no one else was hurt, the incident has prompted security authorities to reexamine their strategies for mall and outlet safety. Since large crowds gather during the holiday season in Arlington Heights, it is important to alert shoppers and employees about potential dangers as a way to increase their awareness about their surroundings.

National security authorities understand how the holiday season creates excitement in shoppers, but they are also aware of those wish to start trouble in a variety of ways. Over the past decade, devastating events have occurred in large crowds. As a result, the federal security department has increased security measures in an effort to keep everyone safe.

Although consumers have been made aware of several safety measures, some retail employees have not received adequate training to prepare for incidents such as the one that occurred in the popular mall.
