Illinois man dies in drunk driving accident

A three-vehicle accident in Minooka resulted in tragedy. A man from Bridgeview died in the car accident, which police suspect involved negligence and alcohol.

According to Illinois State Police, the automotive collision occurred on I-80 at mile marker 118 just before 5:30 a.m. A semi-truck was parked on the shoulder of the road, and a driver in a Ford pickup truck, 28, who was heading west hit the rear of the truck. The force of the crash pushed the pickup back onto the roadway, where it hit a westbound Lexus. The westbound lanes on the interstate were closed for several hours while officials investigated the accident and cleaned the scene. It reopened about five hours after the accident occurred.

The Grundy County Coroner’s office says that the passenger in the truck, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 7:45 a.m. The drivers of the truck, Lexus and pickup were all taken to area hospitals. Police said that they all had non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup was charged with aggravated DUI after he was released from the hospital. He was then transported to an area detention facility.

If an individual dies in a vehicle accident that was caused by the negligent or reckless actions of another party, the victim’s family may decide to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent party. Through such a course of action, the victim’s family might be able to prove that the defendant was liable for the accident because he or she chose to drink and drive or was otherwise negligent.
