Illinois woman charged with DUI in fatal accident

On Jan. 26 at approximately 3:00 a.m., two Chicago-area women were killed in a car crash. The police investigation suggests that an SUV in which the victims were traveling was moving southbound on Harlem Avenue when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The SUV went through a barrier and fell at least 50 feet from Harlem Avenue to Canal Bank Drive. There were apparently no witnesses to the accident, which was not discovered until hours later. The wrongful death of both occupants was uncovered when a truck driver came across the overturned SUV.

At approximately 7:00 a.m., police encountered a 44-year-old woman walking near the entrance ramp to southbound Interstate 55. She did not mention being in an accident but instead stated that she was returning home from a bar in Berwyn. Reports indicate that the woman was freezing, intoxicated and seriously injured. She was treated at MacNeal Hospital.
